Desktop Diet Disasters: Accessible Food to Avoid at Work

If you’re on a diet, you know how hard it is to say no to your favorite meals. To be able to do this, you have to keep you guard up and say no even to the most generous offers. But what if stress becomes a factor, or for the lack of a better term, an excuse?

This is usually the case at the office. With piles of paperwork, hours in front of the computer screen, and deadlines to meet, it’s impossible not to think about killing the stress with a snack or two. Even worse, seeing a co-worker eat a hearty meal while you’re stuck with your greens isn’t very encouraging.

Well, grabbing a snack when you feel hungry isn’t bad, in fact, it’s recommended. What matters is the snack choices you make, and to be honest, we all fall victim to eating junk food at work. And it surely doesn’t help that these foods are so accessible.

Here are two snacks you should avoid if you want to stick to your diet at work:

Instant noodles equals instant fat. Instant noodles are some of the most convenient, not to mention delicious snacks you can enjoy at work. Packaged in large, colorful cups, all you have to do is add hot water to enjoy a tasty chicken, beef, or seafood-flavored snack that you can sip and slurp while doing computations, writing reports, or going over the week’s business plans.

However, this convenience comes with a price. Instant noodles are high in carbohydrates, low in fiber, vitamins, and minerals, and are fried as part of their manufacturing process. This combination results in a meal that is high in saturated fat. Even worse, instant noodle broth contains high amounts of sodium, which can affect your water retention rate – one of the factors that can make people feel bloated.

Fizzy drinks and other unnecessary treats. Sure, it may seem tempting to just have a sugary treat or a bottle of soda every now and then, but make sure you don’t let it become a habit – especially if you’re on a diet.

This is because consuming too much sugar disturbs our metabolism, which does not only make you gain weight, but also leads to troubling health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and elevated blood triglycerides, among other illnesses.. These should be good enough reasons to cut down, don’t you think?

To make sure that you stick to your diet, you can try bringing a packed lunch to work or even convince a co-worker to help you stay away from junk food. This way, you can stay in control of the food you eat, find a balance between indulging and disciplining yourself, and reach your fitness goals without feeling hungry or finding an excuse to break your diet.
